Overview
SMSTS Stands for the Site Managers Safety Training Scheme.
Construction Skills represents the UK Construction Industry. However the SMSTS Course is not just for the Construction industry it is also suited for the Engineering, Chemical, Oil, Manufacturing, Demolition, Landscaping industries and much more besides.
The SMSTS Course provides an indepth and thorugh foundation to managers, supervisors and directors on how to operate, plan and manage a safe site; as well as what to do should an incident occur.
We have 21 Training Centres located throughout the UK. We cover all regions in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. We have additionally delivered courses in the Middle East where the qualifications are also highly regarded.

Session Subject | Session Subject | Description of Subject |
Session One | An introduction to the Course | During this session the students will be introduced to one-another and the subjects at hand, and then given a general outline of what will be discussed during the course. |
Break | Quick Questionnaire | The students will be given a quick questionnaire to fill out which will let us gauge the student's current understanding, allowing us to better tailor the course to suit the individual. |
Session Two | Health and Safety: Procedure, Accidents and Authorities | During this session the students will be introduced to health and safety procedure , including an overview of the legislative bodies overlooking the construction sector as well as a brief examination of accidents and their potential prevention in the UK. |
Session Three | Legislation: The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 | In this session the students will be taught about legislation pertaining to Health and Safety within the Construction Industry- including responsibilities and the potential liability of the employer. |
Lunch Break | Course Amended For Student Suitability | The tutor will review the questionnaires of the students, as well as their progress throughout the day, and will make changesto the course so as to make it more viable for the students. |

Session Four | Health and Safety: Responsibilities of the Manager | The students will be taught about the responsibilities of the manager in regards to health and safety. |
Group Exercise | Implementing Health and Safety Legislation | The students will partake in a practical exercise so as to demonstrate and review what they have learned. |

Group Exercise | Implemented: Health and Safety Legislation | The students will discuss the previous day's exercise so as to increase the group's understanding. |
Session Five | Heights: Dangers and Precautions in the Construction Industry | During this session the students will be taught about safety protocol when working at dangerous heights, including:- Risk assessment, planning and regulations concerning construction at heights. |
Session Six | Safety on Construction Sites | In this session the students will be taught about everyday hazards on construction sites, covering:- Ladders, scaffolding, first aid and more. |

Session Seven | Construction Industry Relationships | The students will be taught about the relationship between principal contractor, contractor and clients and will also be informed of specific construction regulations. |
Session Eight | Health and Safety: Management: Equipment and its appropriate usage | During this session the students will be taught about equipment that they will need to do fulfil specific tasks, as well as what kind of equipment is required in this various scenarios to prevent potential accidents. |
Group Exercise | Responsibilities of Managers and Supervisors | The students will partake in a group exercise where they discuss the responsibilities of managers and supervisors. |
Third Day - Morning | Session Subject | Description of Subject |
Group Exercise | Responsibilities of Managers and Supervisors | A discussion on the group exercise that took place on the previous day so as to make sure that all the students are at the same place. |
Session Nine | Health and Safety on Construction Sites | The students will be taught about the dangers of working on construction sites and how to deal with them, including:- asbestos, noise at work, manual handling, potential injury from vibrations and waste management. |
